You’ve probably heard that content marketing is incredibly important, especially in today’s marketplace. There’s so much noise out there from direct competitors in your niche and other advertisers in general. Just think about your own social media feeds. How often do you see someone selling a product or service? Do you even notice them anymore, or do you just keep scrolling by.
With all of the noise out there, you need to do something to make yourself and your business stand out. How do you get someone’s attention in a sea of salesy posts? First, you listen to them. You learn where they need help. You listen to their problems and find out what their pain points are. What do they need help with?
Then, you create content to help them solve their problems. A busy mom doesn’t have time to cook healthy meals for family? Create recipes she can make in 20 minutes or less. She’s frustrated that her kids spend too much time in front of the TV? Create family-friendly activities kids will actually want to participate in.

The more you listen to your followers’ and readers’ needs, the better you’ll be able to actually help them. Then, when you actually help them solve a problem, they’ll pay attention to you. Solve a really big problem and they’ll love you. They’ll actually want to give you their money for your product or course.
So what’s the key to getting your potential clients’ attention? Building a relationship with them. You can’t simply sell to them! Selling like that doesn’t work, especially online. Remember, there’s a lot of noise out there, and if you’re just selling, you’re just contributing to the noise. What’s not noisy? Creating a genuine relationship.
To create a truly successful business or blog, you have to get your followers to know, like, and trust you. You have to grow that trust over time. As you build the relationship with your niche market, your business will grow. The stronger that relationship is, the more people will invest in your business. Just think about where you spend your own money. Who have you bought an online course or eBook from? Someone who you’ve been following and listening to for a while. Someone who has your trust, right?
Great content will help you stand out. Great content will help you build relationships. Great content will help you grow your business. By being truly helpful, by putting your followers’ and readers’ interests first, you’ll set yourself apart from your competitors. They’ll want to buy from you because they believe that you actually want to help them.
You’ve shown them that you care by helping them solve their problems with your free content. You’ve shown them that they can trust you to know how to help them. Because of that trust, they’ll be willing to part with their hard-earned money and invest in your products and services.
